Message in a Bottle [drabble: 100 words exactly]
"Foolish Potter," the snake-man crooned. "Did you think to oppose me? And dear, dear Severus." He gestured, and the wand skittered beyond Snape's reach. "Later, I shall explain my disappointment at your betrayal, at length."
He gazed down at the dazed boy, the crippled man fumbling frantically to draw again; then, laughing, struck the second wand from Snape's grasp with a jolt of fire -
Lightning crackled across the Dark Lord's shields as he flung his arms wide. "Who will stand against me?"
Smoke poured from the wand, piled up, took shape -
"I will," said the shade of Albus Dumbledore.
The story is based on an idea floated by Red Hen on the Yahoo group Loose Canon. It's been revised slightly after a reader pointed out that the original version, in which Snape cast Priori Incantatum as a non-verbal spell, didn't fit what Dumbledore says about it in GoF. In this revised version Snape and Dumbledore between them have made another Fawkes-feather wand which Snape then uses to kill Dumbledore, hoping that Tom will fire directly at it with his own phoenix-core wand and trigger it.
