What we would do different next time...
Take the 5th! No seriously, let's hear it for hindsight!:
More
transport or a smaller group:
If you are serious about the 24 hour limit, then you need a faster means of getting between the sites. Two smaller petrol-engine MPVs may be a better bet for a bigger group, or even two cars for a smaller group. |
Sleep:
Don't laugh. Lack of this will sort you out faster than any injury if you're not prepared for the challenge. Grab a nap when you can... |
Walking
poles:
This/These will take the strain off you ankles/knees when you are tackling some of the more intense terrain that the peaks throw at you. |
Reverse
the Route:
Tackle the Ben first...it's the highest and the longest. While Snowdon is certainly no pushover, it is an easier prospect at the end of 24 hours... |
Reverse
the Route II:
...also, the 600 mile drive home the following day from the Ben didn't exactly help the recovery rate, given that we were cooped up in the LDV for 8 hours. |
More
energy drinks/bars:
...you can never have enough. Having said that, make sure any liquids are evenly distributed as they are bulky in both weight & volume. |
Knee
supports:
Your knee is a complicated joint...be nice to them! |
Never
ask 'How far is it to the top?'
...unless you REALLY need a placebo. Anyone who has ever asked this will know exactly what I mean. |
Have
an alibi...:
...ready, or be somewhere else when they come asking for volunteers to 'do a walk for charity, nothing strenuous of course...' You have been warned! |
