1987 - 88

This year was not only the first year that Unity had to go it alone after the retirement of Richard Renton, but also the retirement through illness of Malcolm Hartley. Malcolm (T&A Table Tennis Writer) was a good friend to table tennis and reported with intelligence and gusto in the local paper. Malcolm actually went to watch different matches throughout the season in order to give first hand reports on the progress of each team. In reality Malcolm has never been replaced, and as a result since this time Table Tennis has been somewhat marginalised in the press. Which is all the more galling considering the success at regional, national and international level.

See the picture by kind permission of the T&A of some of the junior players at the Hermits Table Tennis Club annual tournament. Unfortunately none of the players are named, so if you know who the missing ones are then please email the web site and the details can be updated.
