1990 - 91
Not a hugely inspiring year although the chairman's message indicated that he thought that the decline in the number of teams and divisions had come to a stop and that now was the time to build again. Maurice also confirmed that the committee would concentrate its efforts in encouraging both young and old to take up or come back to the sport. That season there were eight divisions of 14 teams each. The indications were indeed wrong and it was simply that the curve had shallowed, not taken an upward slant.
At the top of the pops was bandanna wearing David Indricks who won the Division One averages with more than a bit of style. David in recent years has become a professional golfer and concentrates his livelihood on the Eastern European golf circuit. Lidget Green stalwart Malcolm Gee was awarded the Frank Briggs Trophy for completing a sequence of one million unbroken games (or something in that region) in the Bradford League. Malcolm one of the few penhold grip players left was awarded the trophy again a few years later. Its a real honour receiving this trophy as the winner has to be nominated then voted for by their peers. So for Malcolm to receive it again shows the warmth that he his regarded with.
