1991 - 92

Surely one of the most remarkable examples of small print seen outside the insurance industry for the 1991-92 handbook. The print for the tables was so small that even the printer - Mr Magoo - had to squint. The handbook was however packed with new advertisers and whoever was responsible for generating these did a grand job.

Bradford Table Tennis legend Arthur Bowers became President of the League succeeding John Page. And Chairman Maurice Greenwood welcomed four new faces to the management committee. On the table the Bradford inter-league teams swept all before them in conquering the regional leagues and tournaments.

This was the season that yours truly played my one and mercifully only game at the North Bierely (East) Labour Club which has now been knocked down. On arrival at the front door we were unfavourably looked up and down by the eighty year old doorman who sat unthreateningly behind his table. Above his head on the wall was a Day-Glo orange sign that read:

"Any women or children must be accompanied by an adult"

We never did find out if this was written correctly or if indeed they needed some help with their thinking. But it made us laugh at the time.
