St Patricks Day

~ 1998 ~

A little group of re-enactors  from various regiments descended on the Ulster-American Folk Park, Omagh for Saint Patrick's Day. They travelled from Bangor, Belfast, Londonderry and Dublin, their experience varied just as greatly as the distances they travelled. Some had been to the USA for re-enactments while for some this was their first day out; and they were desperately searching for the elephant!

The public were entertained to various examples of drill, volley fire, and skirmishing. The whole day was finished of by a couple of small skirmish actions against 2 or 3 rouge Confederates either brave or foolish enough to come against the defenders of the Pennsylvanian homestead deep in the heart of the Ulster countryside.

Advancing in line

The highlight of the day was when Colour Sergeant Robinson gave the order for the 28th Massachusetts, 69th New York and the 9th Kentucky to advance.........and all 8 of them did!

69th NY Vols

Gerry Lynch and a new recruit for the 69th NY take a well deserved rest.

Two members of the recently formed Company 'C' of the 69th New York based in Dublin, brought some shamrock to compliment the local shamrock worn by everyone in their headwear on the day.

~ 1999 ~

This year saw ACW reenactors take over the Park again. Numbers were down on 1998, but the spirits if anything were higher. Again were had a number of new recruits and we were visited by 1st Sgt O'Brien, 9th Ky from the UK mainland ..... always a welcome visitor. As the previous year shamrock was handed out and worn in the hats of the soldiers.
