George Formby Senior
was one of the great British Music Hall artistes. He lived from
1877-1921. He recorded this title in September 1908.
George Formby Junior was born in 1904 and died in 1961. He was the son of George Formby Senior. George Junior started his career on the Music Hall stage and tried to follow in his father's footsteps. He was not very successful in this and changed course. He went into Variety and made a successful career there. He also went into films and was very successful in this field also. This recording is one of the few titles of his father's repertoire that he recorded. Listening to the two recordings shows some similarity in style to his father. In places I could believe that I was listening to his father and in others I could trace signs of the later George Formby Junior. George Junior recorded this title in May 1926. It was one of six titles from his first recording session.
The Vocalion Gramophone Company Ltd. had a special Scottish Series (with the catalogue numbers beginning from SC 300) on their Broadcast Super Twelve label. Tommy Lorne, the Scottish Music Hall artist made his first recordings for this label. They date from the late 1920s. I do not know how large the series was. I have about a dozen records from the series.
