About the club

The club offers sailing and racing opportunities for all, from complete beginners trying a day sail in the Solent, to experienced sailors looking for competitive yacht racing. Throughout the season we enter a variety of racing events:

  • Inshore races in the Solent such as the Sunsail race series;
  • Offshore RORC and JOG races to France and the Channel Islands;
  • Campaigns such as the Fastnet.

The emphasis is on having fun, with a friendly atmosphere. There is no minimum level of experience to sail with the club. For details of membership and eligibility click on the Membership menu item at the top of the page or download a crew bureau form here.

CSORC Sailors to Cross the Atlantic - June 3rd - Club Captain, Trevor Drew and Treasurer Richard Palmer have entered the TwoStar two-handed transatlantic race, leaving Plymouth on June 3rd. More ...

IDOR 2012 We are really pleased that we are able to enter two boats in the IDOR this year. This event goes from strength to strength and is not only a great event in its own right, but a great way of getting people into the sport of sailing and racing. Both crews are now full. More details of the IDOR week can be viewed on the IDOR page. There are also some other useful downloads including GPS coordinates and tide times.

photo: Hamo ThornycroftMarch Sunsail Events We were a bit short-staffed for the Sunsail Season Shakedown, but luckily it was a bit breezy and the race officer declared it a no-spinnaker day after the first race. We had a lovely sunny day blowing the cobwebs away, getting our sea legs and a handful of other euphemisms for being a bit slow.

Sunday dawned wet and with a fearsome forecast so our plans to get some practice in were put on hold and we settled for a couple of hours making our way to Port Solent in 30 knots of cold wind. The next one is 31st March - a full weekend of racing this time.

From next year membership of the CSSC is open to a much wider range of people including local authority employees, teachers, the police and firefighters. Family and friends can become Linked Members so all in all more people can come sailing with us! Full details here. The CSORC AGM will be held at RORC in early February - full details to be confirmed so watch this space.

CSORC crew clothing You can now get crew clothing with the CSORC logo from Ocean World in Cowes. There's a selection of T-shirts, rugby shirts, fleeces, caps and beanies. You can order online or by phone.
