IDOR 2012 11th-15th June We now have a full CSORC crew but there may be other boats looking for extra crew so do get in touch via the CSORC crew bureau. Five days of racing between Civil Service Departmental crews and CSSA club crews, based in Cowes and raced within the Solent and around the Isle of Wight.
Sunsail Series It's been a busy year with a lot of concentration on the offshore races and the Fastnet. We have decided to take a rest and cancel the last couple of Sunsail races, but will be back again next year for the March races.
Cherbourg JOG 23rd-25th September For once this season it wasn't a windy race. Blue Juice finished 12th out of 13 in IRC 3.
Poole JOG Yet another windy weekend. After a brief circuit of the central Solent we set off for a stiff beat out of the Solent to Poole. We read the wind shifts right and managed an excellent 6th place in IRC 3 out of 22 starters. The return was a downwinder in slightly less wind and we only managed a more modest 18th. Read more here.
Blue Juice retires from the Rolex Fastnet Race An exciting race but ultimately disappointing end to our Fastnet campaign after we had to retire with problems to our mast fitting. We were only 80 miles from the rock and had just come through some pretty nasty weather in a good position.
Morgan Cup, Friday 17th June We decided not to compete in this event as the weather forecast was so bad. Friday morning the Met Office put out a gale warning for sea area Wight (actually a force 9) and the prospect of long beat in pouring rain seemed not much fun at best. A very much reduced fleet did complete the course and the results can be seen here. Blue Juice will be adding a race to the programme later in the season in lieu of the Morgan Cup.
IDOR - The Inter-Departmental Offshore Regatta We experienced good winds throughout the regatta with gusts over 30 knots during the Wednesday inshore races. You can read the reports on our IDOR blog. Hamo Thornycroft took some great photos which you can see here. Our placings were 8th, 9th, 11th, 6th, 15th, 6th, 7th. 22 boats entered. Download the full results and the pairs competition results.
Myth of Malham Another breezy offshore race for Blue Juice. The outbound leg to the Eddystone was quick enough but the run back in winds gusting to 30 knots was even quicker. We were 29th in IRC 2 out of 35 starters.
De Guingand Bowl 14th-15th May Results here. Read Emily's race report on our blog, and read about the race (and CSORC) on the RORC site.
Cervantes Trophy Race CSORC completed our first offshore race of the season over the early May Bank Holiday weekend. The race course was set through the Needles and east round the back of the Island to Bembridge and the Nab, then off to Le Havre. The race was dominated by a fresh easterly wind which made the "round the island" bit challenging but the Channel crossing was quick and straightforward, with no tacking until near the finish. We brought up the rear in IRC 2 but everybody learnt a lot and we will be going for results next time out.
The March edition of C S Sailing is now available to download from the newsletters page.
Solent Racing Marks Navigators can download the racing marks from the SCRA website. Here is the link you need.
Sunsail Race Series #2 March
26th-27th We had an excellent, sunny and warm weekend racing in light
to moderate winds. We finished 4th out of 12, a great result. The new
Sunsail boats are, not surprisingly, a delight. Loads of instruments,
and nice laminate sails.
