Sir James Mcnabb Campbell KCIE
late of the Indian Civil Service Bombay
born 4th October 1846 d. 26th May 1903
The proofs he gave of varied talents in the
Public Service and especially in the compil-
ation of the Gazetteer of Bombay obtained the
tribute of public acknowledgement
But chiefly precious to his many British &
Indian friends who have placed this tablet
above his resting place is the remembrance
of his private virtues, his ready sympathy
unselfishness and courtesy and the noble
example set by him during the Great Plague
in Bombay which led to his premature and
deeply lamented death.
