Gypsy Queen

Girl next door or sultry siren ? We talk to the bubbly actress behind Home and Away's Gypsy Nash
Kimberley Cooper walks into the studio and within seconds the whole room is buzzing with noise and activity. No one can fail to notice that this is one Aussie actress who seems to have an unlimited supply of energy and makes everyone she talks to feel alive, too.
Her zest for life is a trait that she shares with her Home and Away character Gypsy Nash, who also has a habit of causing a commotion or three. But according to Kimberley, that's where the similarities end.
"Some people say I'm a lot like Gypsy, but I don't think I am at all," she insists. "Maybe I was a few years ago, but I'm not any more. I'd like to think that my life is more interesting than hers."
With Gypsy having to deal with everything from abductionto alcoholism, Kimberley would have a tough job trying to beat her alter ego's eventful life. But the pretty 19 year old actress certainly has had plenty of excitment since she joined the show three years ago.
"My life is nothing like it was before Home and Away. It has changed completely," explains Kimberley. "For starters, before I got the role of Gypsy I lived in a small town, I'd failed school and I was on my way to becomming a check-out-chick."
"Winning the part meant that I had to move from my home in Cleveland, Northern Austrailia, to Sydney. It also gave my life some direction. Everything kind of fell into place after that."
Although it may seem that Kimberley has enjoyed a run of good luck, it wasn't easy for her at first. She was excited about living in Sydnet, but she also felt lonely at times.
"My Grandmother helped me with the move but after that I had to learn to do everything on my own. Not that I have managed to crack everything yet. I still can't work out how to work the washing machine !" One thing Kimberley has mastered, however, is the art of being a star. Her face is seldom out of the gossip pages of the Austrailian press and she has earned a reputation for being a bone fide party animal.
"I do love a good party" she smiles. "I like to have fun with my friends. I don't care what I'm doing as long as I'm the center of attention."
Kimberley also has another passion - dressing up. "I definitely love having fun with clothes." she says. "I can't really describe my sense of style because it tends to change all the time. I guess that is what I like about it."
While Kimberley's love life has been a constant source of speculation recently, she firmly denies any romantic link with Neighbours star Daniel MacPherson, who plays Joel Samuels. "Macca is like a brother to me," she says.
However, Kimberley does confirm another rumour we've heard ; that she has been involved in a long distance relationship with Michael from the British boy band Ultra.
"I met Michael the last time I was in London, and we hit it off right away," she reveals. "But it is not easy to have a relationship with someone who happens to live on the other side of the world."
Whether she's still keen to persue the romance, remains to be seen, but Kimberley has no plans to leave the show.
"I'll be staying put for the time being" she says. "But whatever I do in life, I just want to do it well and be noted and successful"
