Summer Bay's Harry and Gypsy are a couple and Justin Melvey and Kimberley Cooper can't keep a staight face!
Oops! Home and Away's Gypsy Nash has done it again - and this time, the sexiest girl in Summer Bay has set her sights on gorgeous Harry Reynolds! In Episodes to screen this week on Seven Network, Summer Bay's unlikeliest copule end up in a siziling embrace - and if you think the development sends shockwaves through the sleepy seaside hamlet, you're absolutley right!
When TV WEEK learned of the storyline, we couldn't wait to catch up with the actors behind the characters - Justin Melvey and Kimberley Cooper. From the moment we brought them together in our photographic studio it was clear that they make a dynamic duo - even if the thought of it reduces them to giggles.
"If someone had said to me six months ago that Harry and Gypsy would have ended up together I would've replied 'Yeah Right'." Kimberley says, laughing. "But it makes sense. She hasn't had luck with other men, so it'd hardly surprising that she'd go for him."
"Justin and I are having an excellent time. As you can probably guess, it's hard for either of us to keep a straight face. The idea of us getting together is hilarious!"
While Kimberley and Justin are nothing more than "the best of mates" off-screen, the on-screen chemistry between Gypsy and Harry kicks off in an old fashioned way.
"It's a very slow courtship", Justin explains. "Harry has just split up with Shauna and is not even on the lookout for a relationship. The thing with Gypsy just kind of happens."
"He takes Gypsy up in his plane and it is all very innocent. The plane lands, Harry sees how genuinly happy and excited she is, and it rubs off on him."
"Later he takes her for a ride on his motorcycle and she loves that. Basically she likes everything that Harry likes and Shauna hated, so a relationship slowly develops from that."
According to Kimberley Gypsy is slightly reluctant to show her feelings.
"People start assuming that Gypsy is trying to crack on to Harryso she tries to resist him and prove them wrong," she reveals. "She has a reputation for being the Summer Bay welcoming committee - in other words, she seems to go for everyone that walks into the caravan park - so she tries to hold back."
"But in the end she can't deny it any longer and they end up having a good old fashioned pash!"
From this moment things really heat up! "Gypsy's dad Joel isn't very impressed" Kimberley continues. "The age difference is a sore point for him. Gypsy is about 17 and Harry is at least 10 years older. It's also an issue for Gypsy ... but she gets over it pretty quickly!"
Another person who isn't impressed is Harry's ex-girlfiend Shauna. "Shauna has a lot of issues to deal with" Justin believes "She's not very happy about Harry and Gypsy, but that's not something they can dwell on".
So what does the future hold for this good-looking pairing?
"It's more a case of love than passion, so hopefully we'll stay together" Kimberley says. "We'll certainly get to see a softer side of Gypsy, which will be interesting."
"I think Harry and Gypsy are a vry feisty couple" Justin adds. "I also hope it lasts. Gypsy is really tapping into a side of Harry that we didn't see when he was invloved with Shauna, which is fun to play out."
Also under the category of "fun" comes the love scenes between Gypsy and Harry. Both Kimberley and Justin admit that filming the intimate sequences are amusing to say the least.
"It's hard to takes those scenes seriously," Kimberley says. "Kissing Justin is just the same as kissing all the other guys I've had to kiss on the show - Zac, Ben, all the others! It's not sexual at all, just kind of funny. We always get a nervous giggle at the end."
"I can tell you one thing - all my friends are very jealous. However I don't actually see Justin in that light.... 12 year old girls around the country are fainting as I speak."
For Justin, the experience of getting up close and personal with Kimberley is great fun and come light relief. "Kimberley is awesome. We have a lot of fun together," he says. "She brings a sparkle to my life on the set".
