Windows 98 does not include
a FAX utility as Windows 95, however this is included on the Windows 98 CD
Follow procedure below to install MS FAX on your Windows 98 system
Start win98 ·
Insert Win98 CD in drive
If MS Outlook or MS Office
is setup on PC go to step 2
- Click Start | Run and
in the open box type:
· d:\tools\oldwin95\message\intl\wms.exe
(This assumes d is your CD drive letter and installs windows messaging)
· follow on screen instructions
Note:
- If "enter
path to post office" message appears click cancel. This
is probably as Microsoft mail is installed or messaging is trying to
install mail.
- If "Not
enough system resources" error
- If the Inbox
wizard is behind the error pop-up,
click ok to clear error message and continue with
setup
- If not copy
Mapi32.dll (from another
(working) computer running the Exchange Windows 95 client) into
c:\windows\system folder
The version required is 1.0.2536.0,

File size is 128kb
- Or run sfc
and Extract file from c:\windows\options\cabs
Restart computer
- Click Start | Run and
in the open box type:
· d:\tools\oldwin95\message\intl\awfax.exe
(This assumes d is your CD drive letter and installs MSFax)
· follow on screen instructions
- Click start | settings
| control panel then double click on Mail (or Mail and Fax)
The only services installed for a non networked machine should be
Address Book
Personal Folder
MS Fax
- If nothing in list
click Add then select MSFax
Follow on screen instruction, this should also install Address book and
Personal folder
- If Microsoft
Mail is installed, highlight and click remove.
Note: Incoming faxes
are put in inbox e.g. in ms exchange or outlook (not outlook express) in
outlook check tools | services | ensure ms fax is in list if not click Add
To send faxes
e.g. in MS Word, print document and choose Fax printer
