~ May Day ~

The second event of the year at Omagh was blessed with good weather, which could only encourage the new recruits from Dublin, that the hobby has definite 'plus' points. The number of recruits being supplied by 1st Sergeant Lynch has the rest of us convinced he's recruiting at the dockside before they get the chance to 'escape' of the boat!!

The Dublin 69th New York

1st Sergeant Lynch, {69th NY} arrived up to Omagh with a 'small army', recruiting was obviously brisk to say the least. With a bit of effort they were all adequately uniformed and were soon drilling under the watchful eye of Colour Sergeant Robinson {28th Mass}.

A lighter moment

The first cadet, Cadet Rory Lynch celebrates his birthday with a surprise birthday cake to the dulcet tones 'Happy Birthday'.

Coffee time

Protecting the coffee pot from marauding hordes of 'Rebs' is hard work. No one is going to get past the watchful eyes of Privates O'Deorain {28th Mass} and McIlroy {9th Ky}.

~ Late May Bank Holiday ~

The third event of the year was marked by two fellow re-enactors travelling over from England for the weekend; 1st Sergeant Chris O'Brien {9th Ky} and Lieutenant Tony MacKenna {28th Mass}. Various members of us travelled down to Omagh in relays, while a number stayed for the whole weekend. As the weekend progressed the weather gradually broke, but the enthusiasm and moral of those concerned didn't!

Stack arms instruction

Chris {9th Ky} instructs members how to stack and recover arms, rather than using 'ground arms'.

Lost orphans!

1st Sergeant O'Brien also took this opportunity to meet up with the 'Orphan' members of the 9th Kentucky in Northern Ireland. In this instance Private Orr.

Bushwacker

On Sunday afternoon, Colour Sergeant Robinson {28th Mass} switched persona to that of a Rebel bushwacker and was 'hunted' around the Park by members of the 9th Ky, before being successfully shot, bayoneted and relieved of his ill gotten gains.
