12 Small Steps Against Inertia
by
tsubaki-hana
Stunningly well-written long one-shot which follows Severus's feelings about Lily and about his own life from age seven until death (although the idea that Severus drifted away from Lily, rather than vice versa, doesn't realy fit what we see in canon).

|
|
30th January
by
AmyScissors
Desperately sad one-shot: from her window overlooking the playground near Spinner's End, a Muggle woman wonders about the sad-faced man in black who comes there on the same day every year, until one year he is no longer there.

Addiction
by
Emily Waters
Intense one-shot; Snape runs on rage, and when the rage runs out, so does he....
|
|
|
Agoraphobia
by
1silverdoe
WIP which is canon-compatible up to just before the end of DH. Remus Lupin survived. Hermione was spirited away from the battlefield by an unknown captor, and magically brainwashed into believing that Voldemort won and that her captor is hiding her and keeping her safe in return for very grim sexual favours. When Harry finally locates her, thirteen years later, he starts on a trail which may lead to the rescue of a fellow prisoner who has suffered even worse, or may lead to a wrongful accusation against him.

And Ye Shall Find
by
Ladymage Samiko
WIP told as a series of delicate drabbles. Snape has survived but does not wish to be found. He is found by Hermione, but she too wishes to hide herself away due to some sort of nervous breakdown brought on by her torture by Bellatrix, and they end up in hiding together.

|
The Apprentice and the Necromancer
(formerly Probation) by
JunoMagic
Long EWE multi-part story with slight Garth Nix crossover, which is canon up until Snape is bitten by Nagini. Hermione manages to save his life, ending up poisoned herself in the process. While Snape is still unconscious he is tried in absentia for crimes he committed as a Death Eater, and given three years' probation, during which he must find a wife or face life in Azkaban. Later, the story morphs into a mystery thriller, as Severus and Hermione investigate a magical threat to the survival of reality itself, with ramifications leading beyind the Veil. Continued in The Book of the Dead.

Ashes, Ashes
by
Mrs James Norrington
Desperately sad but beautifully written vignette of Snape, dying, thinking about Lily and his own expectation of failure, which had held him back from properly expressing his feelings for her.

|
|
Ashes of Armageddon
by
Emily Waters
An extremely grim but very well-written EWE WIP (though a bit Britpicky). Harry never met with Dumbledore's spirit at the astral King's Cross, so he never got confirmation Snape was telling the truth. Five years after the war, an increasingly dark Harry, now Minister for Magic, has convinced himself Snape was lying. He forces the convalescent ex-spy to become his bonded slave so he can make him suffer for all the crimes he imagines him to have committed, but the nice Harry and the inner sadist are in constant struggle. Although there are some very cruel scenes this is not as nasty as "Harry punishes Snape" stories usually are, since Snape knows from the first that he has allies in Hermione and Ron, who want both to protect Snape and to work out what is wrong with Harry before he metamorphoses into the next Dark Lord, and the story is ultimately hopeful. Will be slash eventually.

|
The Asp at Hogwarts
by
Inkwolf
Long complete multi--part story which follows Albus Severus Potter's first year at Hogwarts, and the mysterious quest set him by the white-skinned, black-haired ghost whose name he does not think to ask. Like JKR (but unlike most fan-writers) the author has the gift of writing believably about teenagers whilst still making them interesting to adults, and the Original Characters are some of the liveliest and most interesting in fan-fiction.
|
|
|
Asphodel and Wormwood
by
rabbit and -v-Jinx-v
One-shot: Severus strikes up a rapport with Winky which will ultimately save his life.

Be sure to act your part convincingly
by
tearsofphoenix
A sad, touching one-shot which loooks at Snape's thoughts just before and during his death-scene, and the lifetime of dedication and self-doubt which brought him there. You can decide for yourself whether Snape has truly died, or whether his story develops as it does in the more hopeful continuation I open at the close.

The Book of the Dead
by
JunoMagic
EWE WIP with slight Garth Nix crossover, continuing on from The Apprentice and the Necromancer. Hermione has been rescued but has lost her nerve for performing magic. Meanwhile some of the wizard-hating Necromancers of the latter-day Inquisition are stiill unaccounted for, Tom Riddle's spirit is slated to return as a powerful demon, and Fudge's political ambitions are on the move. See also the out-take No Door and the post-script Candyfloss Days .

Coda to an Epilogue: Twenty Years Later or The Kids Are All Right:
Part One ,
Part Two and
Part Three
by
mistful
Long three-part story concerning the reputation and future of Slytherin House. Scorpius Malfoy and Albus Severus Potter are best friends. When they and Albus Severus's brother James get lost in a vast sewer system during an exchange visit to Durmstrang, Harry and Draco become reluctant allies in the search to find their sons. Touching and amusing, especially concerning the friendship between the two boys.

|
Denial
by
little beloved
A very sophisticated, well-crafted attempt to shoehorn the standard Marriage Law plot into post-DH canon: Hermione must marry, and Snape (already married) has the job of playing official matchmaker. Examines the law itself and makes it seem much more interesting and believable than is usually the case. WIP, EWE

by

|
|
|
End of the Line
by
shewhoguards
Multi-part story of which each part can stand alone, with slight Discworld crossover. Beginning with Severus, a series of characters wait for the train at an astral King's Cross, overseen by a skeletal, humorous guardsman. Each section makes an interesting and hopeful point about how death and the astral work.
|
|
|
Epilogue: A Requiem For Three Parts
by
LilLolaBlue
EWE WIP. Snape has survived, but all the survivors are emotionally damaged. Snape is probably the most nearly-functional and he has ended up in a strange ménage à trois with Hermione and Ron, trying to hold the others together as Harry and Ron waver in and out of addiction and mental breakdown. The story goes into some detail on the younger men's work for the Auror Office, and promises to have a crime/detective element.

|
|
|

WonkasChocolate
One-shot: a series of vignettes of Harry over the years, sinking into a pattern of blaming himself for the deaths of others, from which he is eventually liberated by Snape's acerbically sympathetic portrait self.
|
|
|
Forgiveness
by
tambrathegreat
Having survived Nagini, barely and with the help of Aberforth, Snape has ended up drifting across America with two orphaned Lakota children. He is uncertain of his welcome back home, but an encounter with a fellow employee at his new place of work may answer his question. WIP And note this author writes very good, believable, non-irritating OCs.

I've Always Felt Alone
by
tearsofphoenix
A "fourth wall" piece (that is, one in which the boundaries between fiction and reality are breached), consisting of a 300-word drabble in which Snape considers both the death which "she" has given him and the new life the fanwriters may bring him. Follows on from Beyond the End, and is followed by I've Always Felt Strange, which leads into the same author's series of now-AU ficlets in which Snape becomes Headmaster after the war.
|
|
|
I've Always Felt Strange
by
tearsofphoenix
A "fourth wall" piece (that is, one in which the boundaries between fiction and reality are breached), in which Hermione considers the relationship between canon and fanfiction and whether the characters have an independent life beyond both, in which Snape may meet a much better fate than his original author gave him. Follows on from Beyond the End and I've Always Felt Alone, and leads into the same author's series of now-AU ficlets in which Snape becomes Headmaster after the war.

A Murder of Crows
by
Hogwarts 91
Very convincing and original EWE WIP. It's fourteen years after the war and Snape has been in cursed stasis ever since. Hermione is the new Potions professor and very happy in her work, but she is haunted by the memory of an illegal research project she witnessed during a previous job, and which may have far-reaching repercussions. What will it mean for her when Snape finally wakes, no older than he was fourteen years ago?

Out of the Pot and Into the Fire
by

|
|
|
Penal Servitude
by
Sloane Ranger
EWE multi-part story. Snape survives, but a corrupt Ministry refuses to acknowledge his innocence and he is condemned to Azkaban for ten miserable years, and then released only to be sold as a slave. Purchased by Arthur, he works with the remnant of the Order to uncover a dark scheme to crush dissent by controlling the minds of the British wizarding population. I was in two minds whether to include this because the character development and writing-style are only so-so: there is, for example, almost no consideration of the psychological effects Snape's suffering would have had on him. But the plot is complex, fast-paced and exciting and it managed to hold my attention.

Complete two-parter which follows Snape over the years through a succession of emergency treatments at St Mungo's, seen from the point of view of a healer. Time After Time
by
Sushi
Complete, long two-parter: unbeknownst to the Wizarding World, Snape somehow survived Nagini, but the residue of her venom left him lost in hallucinations, convinced that he is a refugee in a world in which Voldemort won and Lily and Harry were his own wife and son, taken from him by Death Eaters. Draco manages to rescue a dying Snape and keep him (barely) alive, but he has no idea how to handle him - or what he needs to hear. A touching medical and psychological drama, although IMO the last chapter suffers from having been squashed into the shape of a challenge-story about sensuality which clashes wildly with the rest of it. EWE and slightly AU in that Remus also survived. Four-part, complete.

Two Strangers at the Door

Harry tries to bring Snape back to life but it all goes horribly wrong, leaving Snape with a restless unsatisfying half-life to which there can be only one end. Depressing, but highly original and well-written.
