What Ever Happened to You, Severus Snape?

Exceptionally clever and convincing, if slightly confusing, EWE piece in which a depressed, disoriented Snape is examining his and Harry's memories of his own survival, and attempting to understand why Harry's attitude to him changed. Hard to read in places because ffn has peppered the text with mathematical symbols, but still a very convincing look at Snape's sourly skittish personality and thought-processes. The story is posted as a long one-shot, but is broken into several chapters within a single page and in any case ends at such an odd point that the listing as "complete" may be an error.

Snape passed as an apparently loyal Death Eater for an unknown length of time but more recently, for reasons which are not explained, he was imprisoned and tortured. Fleeing, he attempts suicide by lorry and ends up in a church-run hospital, where a chance encounter with an old acquaintance reveals that the anti-Voldemort cause may not be as lost as it seems....

Hermione is first absorbed into a strange research programme with an unknown purpose, then told that she is to marry Snape, whom she believes to be a traitor. When she realises how nervous he is she is at first quite sympathetic but when he uses Imperius to get her to go along with the ceremony, sympathy gives way to rage. The writing is uneven but the characterisation is lively and the plot interesting. WIP
