June 2007


156402 at Norwich, 04.June.2007

One Railway's 156402 has received a new livery promoting the Chapelfield shopping centre in Norwich.

The ends of each car nearest the driving cabs have been wrapped in bright blue vinyl with the Chapelfield logo on it, and each car also has the lettering 'Love Shopping. Love Chapelfield' across the bodysides.

156402 was previously all white with 'Anglia in Bloom' branding.

Inside the train, the table tops promote the shopping centre.

Seat covers in the 'One' colour scheme have also been newly fitted.

156417 at Norwich 30.June.2007

And another 'one'... 156417 was specially branded to celebrate 10 years of 'The Bittern Line' Community Rail Partnership on the Norwich to Cromer and Sheringham route.

It was launched on Friday 29th of June and is seen here at Norwich the day after.

The left hand of each car has 'The Bittern Line' in large white lettering, plus the line's emblem at the inner end, and the right hand side has '10th Anniversary 2007' lettering with the Norfolk County Council logo at the inner end.

Inside, this unit also has new seat covers, and promotional table tops.

First ScotRail. Bombardier completed interior work on 3 units during June. 156462 returned to Corkerhill on Friday 1st, 156478 returned on Monday 18th (photo), and 156449 on Friday 29th having gone to Derby on Monday 4th. (photo). 156499 was the only unit at Derby Litchurch Lane at the end of June, having arrived there on the 19th.

Due to earlier flooding and cancellations on Wednesday 20th June, the combined 1Y48 16:10 Mallaig/18:16 Oban to Glasgow Queen Street ran as an 8-car formation south of Crianlarich. The units were 156458/447/457/450 (photo)

Northern Rail. 156488 was released after C6 overhaul at Glasgow Works on Friday June 22, and 156498 arrived at the works on the Monday 25th.

Following last months depot transfers, the depot allocation list on this site has been updated.


May 2007


156484 at Marsden, 12.May.2007

Northern Rail's 156484 arrives at Marsden, whilst working the 16.18 Liverpool - Huddersfield on Saturday 12th May.

This unit has received a repaint into Northern Rail livery and vinyls promoting the Settle - Carlisle Railway.

The Northern livery is a revised style with curved upsweeps and a deeper violet colour on the lower bodyside.

Inside the train, the table tops now feature a map of the Leeds to Carlisle and Morcambe routes

First day out in the new livery was on Wednesday 2nd May, working the 10:49 Leeds to Carlisle service.

The new look train was developed in partnership by Northern Rail, the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line and the Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company. [News Story].

From the timetable change on Sunday 20th of May, Class 158s have taken over from class 156s on Leeds - Settle - Carlisle route, and 156s have also lost their duties on the Sheffield - Doncaster corridor.

Neville Hill has now lost its allocation, with the Northern fleet now split between Newton Heath and Heaton depots.

The latest Northern 156 overhauled at Glasgow Railcare, 156497 departed the works on Friday 25th. Its place was taken by 156488, arriving on Tuesday 29th.

First ScotRail units returning from interior work at Derby during May were 156465 on Thursday 3rd, and 156457 on Friday 18th. Going south were 156462 on the 4th (photo), and 156478 on Monday 21st.

The derailment of a coal train on King Edward Bridge at Newcastle on Thursday 10th led to some Northern 156s working for ScotRail in the follwing days.

156443 worked the 1S73 17:10 Newcastle - Stranraer on 10th, returning home on the 1E95 06:40 Girvan - Newcastle the next day.

On Monday 14th, 'Barbie' liveried 156466 worked 1S50 06:50 Newcastle - Glasgow Central, then the 1M88 12:03 Glasgow Central - Carlisle with 156494, before running on its own empty to Newcastle.

First ScotRail have taken 156403 on-loan from Central Trains for the Summer. It ran north from Nottingham via Preston on Tuesday 22nd (photo). The green unit was in use on Friday 25th, visiting East Kilbride, Kilmarnock and Girvan.


April 2007


156415 at Grantham, 28.Apr.2007

Central Trains' 156415 reversing at Grantham, whilst working the 12.50 Nottingham - Skegness on Saturday 28th April.

Central's 156s are having the 2nd digit of the vehicle number applied to the lower cabfront. '2' in the case of 52415, and '7' at the other end.

156415 also has wheelchair lables from its time on-loan to 'one' early in 2006.

First ScotRail. 156447 returned to Corkerhill on Thursday 19th after interior work at Derby Litchurch Lane.

Two units went south to Derby during April, 156465 on Monday 2nd (photo), and 156457 on 20th (photo)

The fitting of Passenger Information Systems (PIS) to the First ScotRail 156 fleet at Corkerhill is now complete.

One Railway 156412 returned to Norwich on 6th April following a C4 overhaul at Tyseley depot. (photo)

Later in April, 156419 went to Tyseley on Saturday 21st and returned on Thursday 26th.

156402 visited Ilford depot for tyre turning on 18th April.


March 2007


156447 at Leyland 21.Mar.2007 Two more of First ScotRail's 156s have been released from the Bombardier works after interior work.

156492 returned to Corkerhill on Tuesday 20th (photo), and 156458 headed north on Friday 30th

Northern Rail. As part of a cascade brought about by the leasing of more class 158s, units 156486/488/491/497 were reallocated from Neville Hill to Newton Heath on 19 March 2007.

C6 overhauls continue at Glasgow Works. 156486 was released on March 27th (photo), with 156481 arriving at the works the following day.

One Railway units have been visiting Tyseley depot in Birmingham for C4 overhauls. 156422 in One livery returned to Norwich on Thursday 22nd.

The next unit to go, 156412 was moved to Tyseley via Nottingham on Saturday 31st (photo)

Central Trains unit, 156405, was mistakenly sent to Norwich on Saturday 24th. After spending the weekend on Norwich Crown Point depot it return to Nottingham on the Monday.
