Surreal vignette of Padfoot watching the final battle.

And Should I Die
by
Catri Howlman-Carthaki spy
Severus is teetering on the cusp between life and death, standing in an astral landscape of sacred storms, when someone comes to try to persuade him to choose life. Billed as slash, and as HP/SS, but there's really nothing in the story to say so; just that the person who wants him to live is male, and loves him.
and the future is scrawled on the back of your tea leaf, which resembles your skin, which resembles your heart
by
Silvia Kundera
Harry thinks about Ron.
Apparitions
by
BrownRecluse
Hermione tries to bring her dead lover, Severus, back from the dreamtime, but for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Surreal spiritual one-shot.
Barefoot and Pregnant
by
I like angst
Odd, recursive story - Hermione is being interviewed by a journalist, and complains about how she and the other HP characters, especially the women, are portrayed in fan fiction.
Beautiful Bird
by
sshg316
Intense, intentionally disjointed story where you don't get to find out what's going on until the end, about a child who seems to be Snape's but who is being passed off as someone else.
The Beauty of it All
by
goodomen
Luna watches the world and sees how it moves....

Bitter

Blue Blood, Red Stain

hana-akira
Snapshot of a sinister and edgy friendship between Severus and Lucius, with Severus as the more deadly partner - a bit odd in part because the two boys may be the same age.

Lady Altair
A bright, strange, beautiful vignette of Marlene McKinnon and Gideon Prewett.
The Boy Who Lived: A Scientific Explanation
by
Veronica Catherine Richards
A strange look at the concept of True Names.

SongoftheDarquePhoenix
Brief, sad little songfic which portrays Snape as achingly lonely. Slightly spotty grammar but much more cleverly constructed than songfics usually are.
Candles
by
Skull Bearer
Creepy little vignette - Harry feels his soul being drawn away into darkness.
Care and Feeding of Your Severus Snape
by
Shyfoxling
How to look after a Snape, should you acquire one....
Claventino
by
Resonance
Surreal and spooky piece about a strange youth called Hugh Claventino, whose parents have gone mad in peculiarly magical ways. There is a companion-piece called
Claventino's Verse , which is a strange poem which Hugh recites to the Sorting Hat.
Crystal Night
by
Mistress Siana
Surreal, sympathetic-but-horrible vignette of a Lucius who has killed his family to keep them from a world he doesn't want them to have to face.
DANE'S POEM
by
hrmi'nebook
This one really shouldn't be here, because it's about another story entirely (The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E Pearson) and the author just listed it under Harry Potter because they couldn't find where else to put it. But it's so exceedingly good - about somebody who is, or feels themselves to be, an artificial construct (complete with translation into binary) - that I had to list it.
Dirty Deeds
by
GuTTerArT
I wasn't sure whether to put this in the poetry section instead, but I decided it was more of a prose monologue than a poem, even though it plays with internal rhyme. Snape thinks very sourly about the way the wizarding work sits on its collective arse and expects him to do its dirty work for it.
Don't Step
by
S. Thanatos
Harry and Luna stand in front of the Veil, hand in hand....
Dreamscapes
by
Sweeney Agonistes
A set of three vignettes from Snape's life - all of the highest literary standard, and listed as "experimental" because of the Magical Realism style of the first and third pieces.
Eulogies
by
Icarus Unbound
The Bloody Baron contemplates the tomb of Dumbledore. Elegant and obscure (so obscure I don't really understand it).
DeathsClues
by
zuil
A little surreal stream-of-consciousness as Harry thinks about death and disappearance. Very badly typed and spelled, to the point of being hard to read, but has some interesting images.
A Dream
by
TheBitterWord
Somebody - unnamed, but probably Hermione - dreams about Snape long after he has gone into hiding. The dream itself has a realistic mixture of sense and nonsense and seems completely believable.
Eternity
by
Vicis
One-shot of Snape, feeling time passing - very strange.
Fairy Lore
by
seven years
Ginny and an unspecified lover, music and other forms of sensual pleasure... very odd.
Fairytale
by
Angels Broken Shadow
One-shot which examines Harry's history and his relationship with Snape in terms of a fairytale, as seen from the perspective of an analytical reader, and then provides an alternative (but no less tragic) ending.

Humorous but very clever series of one-shots in which the Trio pass the time while they are camping in the woods by getting Hermione to tell a Muggle fairy-tale, and then dissecting it to devastating effect.
The Flight of Icarus
by
a true Elsewhere
A series of scent-related vignettes of Harry and Snape, ending in a moment of understanding. [Warning: full of errors suggesting the author isn't a native English speaker.]
For my hurt ...
by
aloe
Stressed-out, disjointed stream-of-consciousness - Snape trying not to freak out too much about the traumatic memories of his childhood and/or his time as a Death Eater, while Dumbledore makes a total insensitive pig's ear of trying to help him.
Freedom
by
unlikely2
A collection of odd, slightly surreal little vignettes, mostly about the aftermath of the war. See particularly
Loyalty, tenacity, integrity and kindness. in which Harry's animagus form comes as something of a shock, especially to Bellatrix....

Vicis
Jagged surreal vignettes of Snape and others interacting, or resisting interacting, with the Mirror of Erised.

Very strange piece casting Hermione in the rôle of Atlanta who makes her suitors run to prove their worth. With deliberately disjointed grammar.

by
pandafoot105
One-shot of Severus and Lily as lovers. Starts off seeming like a PWP and then becomes sad and strange.

Vivdly descriptive vignette of Snape's childhood, which becomes a meditation on childhood in general.

epiphanies
Dreamy surreal vignette of the young Severus noticing Lily for the first time, and having a premonition about his future fate.
A History of the Tooth
by
emily.down
A long, strange, hypnotic one-shot which follows Hermione's developing attitudes to life, to books and to herself from infancy through to a point partway through HBP and a surreal, sympathetic late-night conversation with Snape.
Hubris
by
AllisonfromRavenclaw
Harry was captured by Death Eaters and Snape was forced to use Cruciatus on him to maintain his cover, before he was able to rescue him. Melodramatic premise but the story is literary and creepy and mainly concerned with Snape's self-tormenting psychological complexities.
If You Love Me
by
Missy Jade
Delicate one-shot in which a series of vignettes sketch in a situation, never fully explained, which has left Hermione and Snape fleeing together through an extended war and a world in ruins, and managing to make their own consolation even so.
Imaginary
by
Yasona Black
Deeply creepy one-shot: Snape catches Harry playing chess with someone who (apparently) isn't there....

In a Dark Room
by
I like angst
Snape tries to exorcize (literally) the vengeful ghost of one of his victims from his Death Eater days.
In my pocket
by
Tyrotinge
Surreal, slightly slashy stream-of-consciousness piece, from the point of view of a mentally-disturbed Draco who is gradually surfacing from a coma following a heroin overdose.
In the Garden of Eve
by
FicklePen
WIP which expands on the one-shot The Things He Does. Voldemort has won. Snape is living as a loyal Death Eater and is keeping Hermione in his house as something between a prisoner and a guest. She despises him, and despises his awkward devotion even more, but she is willing to sleep with him - for a price.
Insane
by
BlackEyedLonelyGirl
Sad, spaced-out stream-of-consciousness of Snape cracking up after Dumbledore's death. Note something unfortunate has happened to the formatting and all the spaces are missing (which does seem to be an accident).
An Ischemic Insult
by
TheBitterWord
Stream of consciousness as Snape suffers a stroke (probably non-fatal).
It's Elemental, My Dear Snape
by
cathedral carver
Beautiful written, hallucinatory HGSS WIP, possibly EWE but that's not clear yet: Snape believes he is dead and that the presence he senses is that of an angel, but he's probably wrong about at least one of those things. But if he's alive, why is there no magic, and no door?
King's Pawn
by
Memento Mori
Dreamy, surreal and sinister piece from Snape's viewpoint, considering his two masters, and Voldemort's hypnotic attraction.
Kissing the Beehive
by
Penelope-Z
A series of surreal slash vignettes. Includes an evil, abusive version of Snape - but the thing is so beautifully-written I felt I had to include it.
Let It Go
by
spheeris1
A sad, minimalist, gnomic little slash piece. Severus and Draco have been lovers, but Draco asks Severus to let it go - never thinking that he will comply.
Letters from the Dark
by
author
Years after the second fall of Voldemort, Parvati Patil is working for the Ministry, compiling a collection of letters and graffiti from the war-years to be added to the historical record. Strange and surreal.
Libera Me a Malos
by
katzenjammer
Original, well-written and creepy little one-shot, portraying the Death Eaters as a warped quasi-Catholic sect, and young Severus as a would-be servant of light, gradually coming to realize he's stranded on the wrong side.
Light and Dark: a fairy tale
by
CJK
Formal, fairy-tale version of Snape yearning after Hermione.
Love Song
by
obfuscate
Long one-shot, a kind of song-fic based around Eliot's The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Set during HBP, it shows Severus feeling himself to be like machinery running down to a stop. I'm not entirely sure about the characterisation - it makes him seem much older than he is in canon - but it's an exceptional piece of writing.
Love Songs
by
Resmiranda
A dreamy, slightly sinister series of vignettes of various characters, halfway between poetry and prose. Mild slash elements. Partly inspired by The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by TS Eliot.

Snape communes with an immortal spirit of Death, who decides to intervene in wizarding affairs.... Very, very weird.
A Mist of Freedom
by
LaSuen
Harry chooses not to return to life and he and Snape go on together. Atmospheric, strange and uneasy rather than sentimental.
Morbid Fascination
by
riynariddle
Surreal vignette: Hermione is making tea, and Harry is feeling very, very stressed....
My Name is Severus Snape
by
Kudostalker
Immensely odd sad/humorous dialogue-piece in which a vampiric (but still fairly virtuous) Snape explains his reasons for killing Dumbledore whilst occasionally breaking-off to argue with the author.
A New Life
by
DuchessAndromeda
The war is over and the wizarding world has a new lord. He doesn't want to be feared, but.... Pretty grim and depressing, but well done.

by
Days Like This
Remus Lupin thinking about Lily, in a dreamy, surreal style based on TS Eliot.
A Potion Induced Comma: The Musical
by
Shyfoxling
A mistake with a potion causes Hermione to hiccup commas: a surreal meditation on the perils and pleasures of punctuation, with music, inspired by a spelling mistake in someone else's summary.
A Prince's Tale
by
a true Elsewhere
Brittle, stylised one-shot which looks at the relationship between Severus's parents, and between Severus and Lily.
Rain and Wings
by
whippy
Many years after graduation, Harry and others try to come to terms with the death of Cho Chang. Remarkable for a very different but entirely believable take on Snape's personality, as well as for the delicately atmospheric writing. Mild slash element. AU because Dumbledore is still alive without explanation, and Snape didn't start teaching 'til he was almost thirty.
Rapunzel
by
tir-synni
Very, very dark but beautifully-written - after the final battle, Harry is kidnapped and held as a slave and toy for Lucius.

Scorpions
by
Gigisellingout
Hallucinatory vignette - Lily sees Severus as a dangerous creature, yet one which means her no harm.
Severus
by
Zerestor
Severus is in a state of mental confusion, listening to a voice he half recognises but cannot identify, and neither he nor we know whether he is prisoner or patient. WIP which at time of writing consists solely of the prologue, having suffered a severe delay due to the theft of the author's laptop, with all her work on it: but she hopes to recreate the rest of the story.
Simply Inconsequential
by
Pickledishkiller
In the Department of Mysteries lie the Pensieves of those who have died....
The Singing Sea
by
Auxphono
Dreamy, elegaic, very slightly slashy piece about Harry, Ginny and Snape sharing a drink before a battle in which they all expect to die, and musing about what Tom Riddle means to each of them. [Warning: annoying centre-justification, slightly hard on the eyes. ]

by
Dzeytoun
Elegant and painful look at how Snape sees his own position vis-à-vis Harry and Dumbledore.
Snuff Out
by
Naatz
In the months following the end of HBP, a Harry who has had (or perhaps only deams he has had) a sexual relationship with Snape dreams about a green bed and three deaths - Dumbledore's, Snape's, his own - none of which he really wants. Beautiful and strange.

Spinner's End: The Handmaid's Tale
by
zafania
Surreal piece in which Bellatrix has trapped the soul of one of her enemies in a ring on her finger, until she has become lost in a sort of confused, timeless dream, and the woman trapped in the ring is trying to make sense of the meeting between Bella and Snape. You may find you have to go to the Occlumency site and set up an account before you can access this story.
Temporary Eternity
by
Litt
Two lovers, unspecified, are trapped in a ruined Hogwarts by a siege which drags on and on.... Surreal and slightly incoherent.
Ten things you didn't know about
by
Myene
Odd little lists of "facts" about different characters, which between them add up to tell a story. WIP
Thespian Glasses

The Things He Does
by
FicklePen
One-shot which is expanded on in the WIP In the Garden of Eve. Voldemort has won. Snape is living as a loyal Death Eater and is keeping Hermione in his house as something between a prisoner and a guest. She despises him, and despises his awkward devotion even more, but she is willing to sleep with him - for a price.
Traitor
by
Fingoscript
Snape appears like a rather solid ghost to a fanwriter who has gone off whoring after another fandom, demanding that she return and continue to write his story "between the lines", fleshing out his character with the humanity and virtues which he feels that his "master", JK Rowling, has denied him.
Tree By Leaf
by
cattail prophetess
This is billed as a poem, but it really isn't. What it is, however, is a floaty, dreamy, slightly surreal, very slightly slashy conversation between Harry and Draco.
Two Strangers at the Door
by
reenka
Harry tries to bring Snape back to life but it all goes horribly wrong, leaving Snape with a restless unsatisfying half-life to which there can be only one end. Depressing, but highly original and well-written.
Under a bush, my heart in thorns
by
marginaliana
A grim little meditation based around the poem The Good Shepherd by Stanley Moss, although this piece itself is poetic prose rather than poetry. Severus thinks about Albus as a shepherd who drew him back like a lost lamb, and about what shepherds actually do with sheep in the long term, and maybe he'd rather take his chances on the bare hillside than be fleeced or slaughtered....
Useless Mudblood
by
Moirae333
Tom Riddle remembers one of his little hobbies.... This is listed as poetry but I felt it was more in the nature of experimental prose. Strange and creepy, anyway, whatever you want to call it.

wild wolf free17
A series of poems and more or less surreal short stories, mostly about Draco.

by
zorro x
Surreal meditation on what it feels like to be a Death Eater, consumed by love for the Dark Lord.
What Ever Happened to You, Severus Snape?
by
hogsmead.girl
Exceptionally clever and convincing, if slightly confusing, EWE piece in which a depressed, disoriented Snape is examining his and Harry's memories of his own survival, and attempting to understand why Harry's attitude to him changed. Hard to read in places because ffn has peppered the text with mathematical symbols, but still a very convincing look at Snape's sourly skittish personality and thought-processes. The story is posted as a long one-shot, but is broken into several chapters within a single page and in any case ends at such an odd point that the listing as "complete" may be an error.
White Flag
by
snarkypants
On the run and reluctant to believe in his own pardon, Snape is coaxed back to the wizarding world, and out of his shell, by Hermione. But things aren't quite what they seem. Touching, elegant and sad. You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.
Who'll Miss Snape?
by
KatyCullen09
A meditative one-shot, almost a chant, about Snape's isolation and the way he is constantly denigrated and despised.
Who Will Stand?
by
Spike Daft
Slightly surreal stream-of-consciousness which was written years ago but is still canon-compatible: Snape predicting that he will die to enable Harry's victory over Voldemort, and the whole world will call him 'Traitor' and celebrate his death but he's going to do his duty anyway.
Wish for Me
by
CrypticSunrise
The knowledge of his own isolation eats at Snape's soul until something cracks and he makes a wild attempt at suicide - which is thwarted by an unexpected rescuer.
Within
by
aldalindil
Stream-of-consciousness vignette of Lupin, thinking about the wolf within.
World's end
by
Bruno
Powerful if depressing piece in which Voldemort won the war, and his consuming passion for dominance eventually consumed the Muggle world as well, and all humanity with it. [Warning: tragic although ultimately fairly triumphant fate for Snape. ]
You
by
Sarah Anna Lewis
Surreal, deliberately disjointed slash piece. Snape and Draco were lovers but Draco has died and Snape can't take it in, and is talking rather wildly to Draco's shade while his colleagues wonder how to break the news.
