Abduction and Absolution
by
strega-in-progress
One-shot: long after the war, two lonely, desolate people find a spark of hope in each other.

|
Accountable
by
Dyce
Following the end of HBP, Harry and co. find the Horcruxes in a matter of weeks, and force a final confrontation with Voldemort during the summer; Snape, meanwhile, has revealed his true allegiance, and fights as one of the Order's commanders. At the victory celebrations, two soldiers get gloriously drunk and end up in bed together. The more sober of the pair really shouldn't have taken her partner up on his drunken enthusiasm when he was really far too drunk to give informed consent, but she did - and she didn't know he'd be back in his old job come September. Now Hermione and Snape both have to cope with the fact that she's carrying his baby....

After the Battle, Healing Begins

After the war, Snape needs a quiet place to lick his emotional wounds and slowly recover - and he isn't the only one.

|
Agoraphobia
by
1silverdoe
WIP which is canon-compatible up to just before the end of DH. Remus Lupin survived. Hermione was spirited away from the battlefield by an unknown captor, and magically brainwashed into believing that Voldemort won and that her captor is hiding her and keeping her safe in return for very grim sexual favours. When Harry finally locates her, thirteen years later, he starts on a trail which may lead to the rescue of a fellow prisoner who has suffered even worse, or may lead to a wrongful accusation against him.

An Alternative Epilogue
by
tearsofphoenix
One-shot showing a peaceful outcome for two of the characters, years after the war. Very sweet, and cleverly constructed. This is one of a series of interlinked pieces all looking at aspects of the same events from different points of view: An Alternative Epilogue; His Last Page; Potter's Evidence and The Last Portrait, which should be read in that order.

Alumni News
by
Pavonis Mons
Excerpts from the Hogwarts Alumni newsletter, five years after Book Seven. Very silly.

Always
by
fire-forged
A series of vignettes of Snape's thoughts and feelings at various points in the books. I've listed it as post-HBP because the first two are set during HBP, but it will probably cover the whole series once finished. WIP
|
|
Animated Night
by
TimeTurnerForSale
As the castle falls to a Death Eater onslaught, a darkly-dramatic Severus tries to persuade Hermione to flee with him. Taken in small bites the writing is beautiful, although en bloc I find it a bit headache-making.
|
|
The Antidote (a.k.a. 52 hours)
by
jin fenghuang
Slash WIP, set some time after Snape has been accepted back into wizarding society and the Trio are sharing a flat. Ron catches Harry and Snape in a compromizing position and is convinced that Snape must have slipped Harry a love-potion, from which it is his duty to rescue him. Not IMO quite up to the usual very high standards of this elegant writer, but still worth a look.
|
|
At Sea
by
Labraid
Lost and sad, Harry finds comfort in building a boat and thinking about sailing away.
|
|
Aura
by
PutMoneyInThyPurse
Snape has been vindicated by information left by Albus, but is still widely ostracized. He ends up brewing potions for St Mungo's, where he becomes caught up in the aftermath of the final battle, trying to heal hideous burns suffered by Hermione and Ron by means of a bit of very antique, folkloric magic. WIP

100-word drabble. Voldemort has invaded Hogwarts, and Harry is the last Order member standing. He needs a little something to tip the balance in his favour....
|
|
Aversion
by
BrokenPoet12
Years after the war, Hermione asks Snape to teach her how to make love but he finds she has serious "issues" about touch. Not quite a PWP because it has something to say about sex, as opposed to just being about sex - if that makes sense.
|
|
Bedside Manner
by
Strega Brava
Although this was written long before HBP came out, it could easily be canon-compatible. The final battle has occurred, some years after the Golden Trio graduated, and Snape is now in hospital being nursed back to health by newly-qualified mediwitch Hermione, and resenting every moment of it. Light and sweet in tone, despite his injured state.
|
|
The Bells of Passion's Watch
by
swooning
It's a couple of years after the war, and Snape is now a decorated hero, although not much better-tempered. The Weasley twins co-opt Hermione into helping them produce a novel-length romantic daydream for sale, but the testing process goes wrong, and first Hermione and then Snape become trapped together in a ship-board bodice-ripper. You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.

Bermuda's Triangle
by
Kyra and Alex
Harry has gone missing, and Britain is being invaded by an unknown race of super-intelligent and murderous giants, who attack both sides of the war indiscriminately. Snape is hiding out in the Forbidden Forest, living on the land and on supplies salvaged from the ruins of Hogsmeade. Hermione, fleeing from a Ministry under siege, performs a spell which will apparate her to the mysterious giant-slayer of whom she has heard rumours - expecting that it will be Harry.... Between the Shadow and the Soul
by
Emeleye
Temporarily removed for re-writing. Voldemort is victorious, but Harry and co. are still part of an active resistance. During a raid, Hermione rescues a prisoner so battered that at first she doesn't even recognize him as Snape - last seen killing Dumbledore, and a loyal Death Eater as far as she knows. WIP. You may find you have to go to the Sycophant Hex site and set up an account before you can access this story.

Beyond the End
by
tearsofphoenix
A "fourth wall" piece (that is, one in which the boundaries between fiction and reality are breached), consisting of seven 100-word drabbles in which various characters look back over the series, thinking about their lives whilst knowing about the "she" who has created them. Followed by I've Always Felt Alone and I've Always Felt Strange.

A Bitter Bargain
by
The Treacle Tart
One-shot with a slight slash element. Years after the war, Snape is trapped in a prison worse than Azkaban when Ron comes to him, seeking help for Harry who is dying from a poison which Snape created. Sad but ultimately hopeful.
|
|
Black Story
by
Jay Tryfanstone
Fairly explicit slash story, dark and sweet by turns. Harry's ability to perform wandless magic has grown to the point where he fears to use it, and he has warped the minds of the wizarding world, taken away the memory of Voldemort's return and of his own rôle in his downfall, and convinced most people that he is a Squib. Then Snape turns up, a desperate refugee but also the only man who still knows who Harry is. Harry gradually falls for Snape, but Snape suffers from severe sexual dysfunction as a result of both chemical and psychological damage due to some of the things Voldemort forced him to do (which are graphically and sickeningly described). Highly unpleasant in places, but beautifully written.

by
corporealdreams
Vignette: when Harry is left stunned and traumatized after the defeat of Voldemort, who will care for him?
|
|
Blood and Fire
by
Cluegirl
Sad but ultimately hopeful slash piece. Harry binds Snape to him magically, first to ensure his loyalty, then as an act of revenge, to ensure Snape lives long enough to pay for his crimes. Snape is hounded, vilified and tormented by a public which hates him, and the binding means that every time he is attacked and brought close to death the magic brings him back to Harry, or brings Harry to him. After nursing him back to health several times Harry becomes progressively more fond of him and more concerned for him; Snape, however, would rather be free to die than continue with what he sees as magical enslavement.
|
|
Blood and Presents
by
Cloudtrader
An immensely horrible, slightly slashy story which I include just because it's so creepily well-written. The Order lost the final battle and Snape and Harry are being held captive at Malfoy Manor and progresively tortured into insanity. Potentially canon-compatible (as if one would want it to be), if you assume that Draco has been Imperiused by Daddy.
|
|
Bondsman 2541D
by
Allocin
The war is over, and the surviving Death Eaters have been enslaved - including Snape. After several masters have tried - with near-total lack of success - to break his spirit he ends up as Bondsman to Lupin; who in fact is part of a conspiracy to end slavery. Sweet but ultimately tragic [you have been warned ].

Burnt Chrysanthemums
by
Shy Violet
At present this story seems to have got lost in Sycophant Hex's transfer to a new archive. Strange, minimalist, atmospheric piece about Hermione encountering (and briefly becoming the lover of) a Snape who is a hunted refugee, in danger of death from exposure and starvation. You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.

wallyflower
Hermione and Snape's budding friendship is overturned by his negative reaction her growing interest in him. When she saves his life in battle he assumes she did it to put him in her debt. Years later they meet as Unspeakables and he realizes he was wrong to suspect her motives, and tries to start again. WIP, will be a two-parter.

|
A Change for the Better
by
Yulara
Mildly slashy piece in which Snape has been left paralysed after the final battle, and is being cared for by Lupin. Slightly canon-shafted because Dumbledore was in the battle without explanation. You may find you have to go to the Occlumency site and set up an account before you can access this story.

Christabel
by
Incapability
Snape musing on his desire to avenge a lost love murdered by Voldemort many years ago, and his drive to be the one who finally kills the Dark Lord. I wasn't sure whether or not to include this one because it's a tad sentimental, and there are some awkward passages which suggest that English isn't the author's first language. But it also has some fine and darkly-poetic descriptions of how Snape sees himself and his quest for vengeance.

Clearest Blue
by
PD Boggart
Snape is in prison for Dumbledore's death, and Harry visits him, hoping for some answers. Sad and sweet.

Click Click Clack Clack
by
lesyeuxverts
A sweetly sinister little one-shot which takes what seems like a silly idea - Snape teaching Harry to knit - and turns it into a tense and creepy look at Occlumency under pressure, as two fugitives try to keep their minds sealed against the hunters who are pressing all around.

Closure
by
Phantomsgirl04
Snape fulfills his life-debt to James Potter by saving Harry after the final battle, and then disappears - but Dumbledore's will requires Harry to find Snape and help him. WIP.

|
The Convict
by
Leliha
Some years after the war, Snape has been magically bound to work as a labourer, and effectively a slave. Although he has a reasonable master the conditions he lives under are very restrictive, and a tentative renewal of acquaintance with an old school friend could get both of them into trouble. This story starts off very slowly, and at one point looks as if it might turn into a Mary Sue, but it gradually builds up to a really painful intensity.
|
|
Costing Not Less Than Everything
by
Jenna Black
A very sad but elegant and cleverly-constructed little piece: Snape has been reunited with the Order and Draco has taken his place as a spy, but Snape must gradually watch the war erode everything and everyone around him.
|
|
Covet
by
Verity
Atmospheric, rather obscure WIP. Hermione is captured and handed over to Snape, who treats her well-enough in an off-hand sort of a way. A connection grows between them and he is left rather forlorn when she finally escapes: but then she volunteers to become the Order's new spy among the Death Eaters....

Death Wish
by
Midnightzstorm and Kedavra
Despite having been apparently ordered to do it by Dumbledore, Snape feels horribly guilty about killing him. He goes on a bender which only makes things worse and then convinces himself he is the murderer of James and Lily, even of Sirius, and wishes that he had never been born. A powerful talisman grants his wish and he finds himself, confused and hungover, in a parallel universe where Lily and James are still alive - and Voldemort's rise was never checked. WIP

|
Desperate Measures
by
Anastadne
In their suspicion of Snape, Harry and Ron come within a second of lifting the lid off a potion whose poisonous fumes could kill half the school. Too far away to stop them, Snape distracts them by faking the start of a sexual assault on Hermione: but instead of recriminations, when she understands that he has just saved them all, the heightened emotion prompts an unexpected declaration of love which leaves Snape confused and guilty. Harry and Ron, however, are not at all grateful, and get Snape into terrible trouble with the Board of Governors. The initial pseudo-assault is a bit of an obvious plot device (although there is a half-plausible explanation offered as to why simply slapping Hermione wouldn't have done the job), but it's extremely well-written for all that. Begins towards the end of Book Six and extends after it. WIP

Dreamer
by
Mengde
A sinister, Ninja-like assassin is recalled to Voldemort's side, and told to kill an unnamed Death Eater. Meantime Bellatrix lands a whole heap of trouble, and an unconscious Hermione, right in Snape's lap. Written in a darkly-polished, slightly mannered but very accomplished Gothic style. WIP

Dumbledore's Man
by
opalish
Sad but well-written: Snape dies in getting information about the last Horcrux to the Order, and Harry, as one of the few people who knows the truth, has him secretly buried at the foot of Dumbledore's tomb, and visits the grave every year.

Everything I've Ever Done
by
duj
After the end of the war, Snape and Hermione very gradually and grudgingly (and waspishly and wittily) build up a relationship. Loosely canon-compatible in that Dumbledore appears to be dead, although there is no mention of Snape having been accused of killing him. Also see Everything I've Ever Done: Reunion, below. Pretty-much anything by duj is worth a look as she writes very well, and her stories about Snape have a quality of kindness and tenderness towards him which is very appealing.
|
|
Everything I've Ever Done: Reunion
by
duj
Twenty years after the war, Snape and Hermione are married, and one of their children is best friends with a girl who turns out to be the daughter of Percy Weasley; who has faked his own death and fled from his family to live as a Muggle. Sequel to Everything I've Ever Done.

|
Eyes of a Tragedy
by
crazylizzie
Long one-shot: some years after HBP, Hermione and Snape are lovers but the final battle is coming, and they make love for what may be the last time. Sexually explicit but elegant and emotive rather than pornographic, although IMO it could have done with being a bit more concise.

Flowers and Dust
by
Madea's Rage
A series of vignettes of the Death Eaters: begins with Snape trying to explain to a court why he was willing to kill Dumbledore to protect Draco, and continues with a surprisingly touching and sad look at Peter Pettigrew.

|
Fool Enough
by
Styx
Hermione is the only one willing even to consider that Snape might still be on the side of the Order, so he kidnaps her and persuades her to act as his go-between. Well-written and in character, despite the author having for some reason stuck to the pre-HBP fanon, but almost impossible to reconcile with canon, idea of the Snapes as an aristocratic family with a mansion. Unfinished at time of listing. You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.

For You Served Heaven
by

Voldemort is still a towering threat, Snape has been captured and imprisoned in Azkaban for the murder of Dumbledore, and Harry is pressing for his execution. The Fourth Year
by
Calligraphy
Slash piece. Snape was handed over to Harry as a bonded servant after the war, four years ago, and they have reached a domestic understanding which gradually develops into something more. Gifts
by
Annie Talbot
The second of a pair of stories. In the first story, I'll Never Take Advantage, Hermione is knocked into a spell-induced coma during the final battle. Snape must marry her, and consummate the marriage (once), in order to provide the magical protection which will keep her alive. He is then left to care for her in the teeth of widespread accusations that he is exploiting her, and attempts by Umbridge to have her removed from his care - in the full knowledge that this will kill her. In this sequel, the newly awoken Hermione attempts to sort out her involuntary marriage with Snape, complicated by the fact that he is convinced that if he has sex with her again that would mean he was exploiting her, and they both must give sometimes embarrassing evidence at the trial of Dolores Umbridge. WIP You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.

A Good Day
by
Dyce
One-shot follow-up to Survivors : can be read on its own, but better taken as a sequel to the earlier story. Snape was vindicated after the war and he and Hermione are now happily married, but he has been left with lingering disabilities and in chronic pain as the result of injuries inflicted by Voldemort. Hermione waits anxiously for him to return from a symposium at which he has, in his own inimitable way, been having fun.

|
Good Night
by
Unscathed
This was written long before The Half-Blood Prince came out, yet could easily be a vignette from afterwards. In a war of shadows and stalkers Harry falls foul of Snape, whose true allegiance is unknown to him.
|
|
The Hall of Heroes
by
Pavonis Mons
After taking a Killing Curse meant for Hagrid in the final battle, Snape ends up in the wrong afterlife.... Clever, funny and touching. Slightly AU in that it was written so long ago that some of the teachers have been ascribed random, wrong first names, but could otherwise conceivably be set some time after HBP.
|
|
The Hanged Man
by
Lady Lazarus 00
I wasn't sure whether to list this as pre or post-HBP - it begins the day after Dumbledore's death, but then goes into a flashback to Harry's fourth year, and it's not clear yet which period will be more dominant. During the Tournament year, Snape encounters a young woman who seems to be a Muggle, but who recognizes and flees from his Dark Mark. She turns out to be a witch who never attended Hogwarts, claiming to be a Squib although in fact she's a sort of wizarding idiot savant whose power has all been directed down one narrow channel. That sounds like a recipe for a Mary-Sue; but actually the story is strikingly well-written and so far it comes across as a mystery-thriller. WIP

Hate
by
purpleygirl
A drabble (tiny little vignette) of Snape thinking about Dumbledore's death.
|
|
Hate in the Time of Horcruxes
by
belladonnacordial
Extremely explicit but well-done and (so far as one can tell when the characters spend all their time shagging) fairly in-character near-PWP. The war is still ongoing, Snape has been accepted back into the Order as having been acting on Albus's instructions throughout, and for reasons which are never explained he and Harry have ended up hiding out in a tiny flat together, getting on each other's nerves, until irritation suddenly flowers into eroticism.

Slash WIP. In the intense hours before the final battle, Harry makes Snape an extravagant offer, to make up for having doubted his loyalties. After the victory, Snape takes him up on it. Explicit but not gratuitous, the physical aspects of the relationship are believably awkward and human.

Heart of Stone

Long one-shot: the castle has been restored and is nearly ready to open its gates to new students, but the life within the stone is nervous, and Hermione and Snape have their own new beginnings to think about. Follows on from Healing Words.

Help Wanted: God and Executioner
by

Long, moderately explicit slash one-shot, alternative to DH. In a long, grinding war of attrition Harry acts as Snape's Order contact, and an understanding grows between them; but sacrifices will be required from both. Continued in Position Filled.

A Hiding To Nothing
by
Meri
Painfully intense slash piece. Snape has been handed over to Harry as a bonded servant. Harry has no idea how to manage him and tries to rule him through fear and increasing cruelty, until he finally comes to his senses and realizes what a monster he is becoming, and they gradually reach some sort of raprochment.
|
|
His Anger
by
Slightly Sinister Sinestra
One-shot: in the last moments before his death, Albus thinks about Snape's red-shifted emotional range, and his own place in it. The portrayal of their relationship, and of Snape, is desperately bleak but not dark, as such.
|
|
His Last Page
by
tearsofphoenix
One-shot: years after the war, the life which Snape didn't even believe he deserved to live has turned out rather better than he expected. This gentle, dreamy piece is one of a series of interlinked pieces all looking at aspects of the same events from different points of view: An Alternative Epilogue; His Last Page; Potter's Evidence and The Last Portrait, which should be read in that order.

I Have Burned the Mask
by
Morvren
The war is barely over and Snape goes to burn his Death Eater robes and mask. Hermione finds him strung out with nervous exhaustion and they have a delicate, kindly flirtation. I'll Never Take Advantage
by
Annie Talbot
The first of a pair of stories in which Hermione is incapacitated and knocked into a spell-induced coma during the final battle. Snape must marry her, and consummate the marriage (once), in order to provide the magical protection which will keep her alive. He is then left to care for her and try to coax her back to the surface, in the teeth of widespread accusations that he is exploiting her, and attempts by Umbridge to have her removed from his care - in the full knowledge that this will kill her. See also the sequel, Gifts, which tells what happens when Hermione awakes. You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.

Ill Met
by
Tyleet27
The war is over and Snape is an aknowledged hero. He and Harry are openly on the same side, now; but Harry's snarly hostility and Snape's smug prickliness keep them at odds with each other. An odd, dreamlike, uncomfortable little piece, told from Harry's p.o.v..

WIP which expands on the one-shot The Things He Does. Voldemort has won. Snape is living as a loyal Death Eater and is keeping Hermione in his house as something between a prisoner and a guest. Like Sunflowers to the Sun
by

Very well-written but horribly tragic long one-shot: after the Death Eaters first take over and then abandon St Mungo's, Draco is left alone to care for the long-term patients, including a recovering Lockhart, when Harry appears and asks him to help save a seriously injured Snape. Very minor slash element.

Snape and Hermione are both stuck in St Mungo's: he crippled and awaiting trial, she suffering from depression after the deaths of her friends. Love Song
by
obfuscate
Long one-shot, a kind of song-fic based around Eliot's The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Set during HBP, it shows Severus feeling himself to be like machinery running down to a stop. I'm not entirely sure about the characterisation - it makes him seem much older than he is in canon - but it's an exceptional piece of writing.

The Man Who Sold the World
by
Meggory
Voldemort won the war and both wizarding and Muggle Britain are under his heel. Hermione, working as a servant, encounters both a fugitive Snape and an all-too-interested Lucius, and she and Snape flee through Occupied Britain. The post-war background is very vivid and believable, and although the author isn't British the setting is also completely convincing (aside from one minor detail - a village with the ridiculously un-British name Greenblatt). Unfinished at time of listing. You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.
|
|
Master in the Trees
by
Mundungus42
A few years after the war Hermione, acting as envoy to the centaurs, discovers that Snape has had a breakdown and is living rough with the Thestrals, apparently addicted to their psychic contact. A well-written story full of interesting cultural detail, developing into a moderately explicit HGSS romance; flawed only by rather erratic pacing, which is the only reason I didn't give it a star.
|
|
A Matter of Will

After the final battle, Snape has been left a hero - but blinded. He is not taking this graciously. The writing is a bit spotty due to English not being the author's first language, but she knows that of which she speaks, from family experience. WIP

Mood Music (see also the sequel, Sons of Prophecy)
by
whitehound (me, of course!)
Bittersweet sad/witty/hopeful friendship-and-adventure story - or you could say, a realistic hurt/comfort story, with Snape as the rescuee being as bloody-minded, snarly and difficult as only he knows how. Voldemort is investigating the potential powers of Muggle-type psychics. Snape falls foul of Voldemort and is captured and tortured, then escapes with the assistance of a Muggle shaman. The two of them flee the Death Eaters through an ancient mine-working, although it rapidly becomes moot just who is stalking whom here. Much discussion of shamanism in general and the shamanic uses of music in particular.
The violence which underpins this story is mainly off-camera or described restrospectively - but if you want a vividly ghastly and harrowing take on the sort of thing from which Snape is fleeing, you could do worse than look at An Apostate. If you add about 2½ years to the characters' ages, and gloss over the canon-shafted idea of Severus and Lucius being in the same year, this could easily be a vignette from about two weeks before the start of the main action in Mood Music : including the fact that Lucius is recalling a schoolboy sexual relationship which he thinks of as romantic seduction but which was clearly abusive and manipulative, and that he makes Draco watch some of what is done to Snape.

Nineteen Years Later
by
JunoMagic
Longish HGSS one-shot which deliberately leaves much unexplained. Nineteen years ago Voldemort won the war. Snape passed as an apparently loyal Death Eater for an unknown length of time but more recently, for reasons which are not explained, he was imprisoned and tortured. Fleeing, he attempts suicide by lorry and ends up in a church-run hospital, where a chance encounter with an old acquaintance reveals that the anti-Voldemort cause may not be as lost as it seems.... Includes a link to a multi-part sequel written by an exchange-gifter, but in my opinion the sequel, although well-enough written, is rather dull and detracts from what was a perfect and luminously intense one-shot.

The Old Walls Crumble
by
cearrae27

chrusotoxos
A well-written and original WIP which is quite stressful to read, since Snape has been captured and you know that the Aurors are going to torture him, but you have to wait for it with the same sick apprehension which Remus and Hermione feel about it. HGSS eventually, so presumably he will survive and be rescued.

The war is over, Harry is dead and so are Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. Snape has been persuaded, reluctantly, to teach again. Draco is sorting out his parents' estate when he discovers a quite unexpected aunt on the Malfoy side. It's early days at this point to tell where the story is headed, and the writing is sometimes a little odd due to the author not being a native English speaker, but the style is fresh and original and full of telling details - such as a beautifully-realized and affecting conversation between Minerva and portrait-Albus. The Potions Master of Azkaban
by
Magical Maeve
Snape ends up in prison for the murder of Dumbledore, and his deep depression moves one of the prison guards to take a sympathetic interest. An excellent start but IMO slightly let down by the ending, which involves somebody having previously undescribed powers which are a bit too obvious a plot device. You may find you have to go to the Occlumancy site and set up an account before you can access this story.

Potter's Evidence

|
The Power of Words
by
Lisea18
A meditation on the way bullying and name-calling hardened and toughened Snape's outward nature. I think it overstates the case a little - I don't believe for a moment that Snape is rude to his students in turn out of a benign desire to toughen them up for the coming fight; he does it because he's already climbing the walls with stress and they get on his tits. But it's an interesting study nevertheless.

Hermione seeks out Snape's help for the final battle. As they wait for Ragnarok to begin, they find an interesting way to pass the time. The Price of Madness
by
PlaidPooka
When Hermione is accidentally caught up in a Death Eater raid, she learns that Draco has joined Snape as a spy for the Order, but Snape himself has suffered a severe breakdown, and is now insane, and Hermione ends up caring for him - in both senses. There are hints that he deliberately allowed himself to go insane because it made it impossible for Voldemort to use Legilimency on him. The author does a mad Snape very believably - veering erratically between being almost his old bossy, intellectual self, pathetic terror, wilful bloody-mindedness and a sort of gleeful, flirtatious naughtiness. Now complete. You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.

The Princess of Gryffindor
by

Voldemort has won and Hermione has been forced to become a prostitute, albeit one in what is, at least, a reasonably high class establishment. A chance encounter with Snape, whose position among her Death Eater clients seems dangerously precarious, leads her to try to help him, but Snape is both more and less vulnerable than he first appears. Dark and explicit but not gratuitously so, and the characterisation is glorious. Multi-part, complete.

|
Quickening
by
Llassah
Snape and Harry have to work together, as a result of posthumous orders from Dumbledore. Very dark in some ways (primarily as regards a dreadful and humiliating initiation-ritual which Harry submitted to in order to gain extra powers), but also touching and very funny: especially the portrayal of a Snape who openly admits that annoying people is his hobby. Unfinished at time of listing.

A Rare Bird
by
missparker85
Bereaved and grieving, Hermione is having trouble coping with life. When her parents try to push her to get her act together she returns to Hogwarts, where she and Snape develop an odd, delicate friendship. Beautifully written, although with at least one annoyingly gratuitous canon error (the Easter holidays have disappeared). WIP

The Rat and the Spy

Atmospheric one-shot character sketch which looks at Snape at Spinner's End through the eyes of Peter Pettigrew, round about the time of Narcissa and Bellatrix's visit, and rouses acute sympathy for Snape and some for Peter as well.

Grim vignette of Snape as a self-harmer, eaten up with self-loathing. Possible character-death, or at least character-dicing-with-death.

Reinventing Hermione

Atmospheric if slightly flowery one-shot: Snape rescues a dying Hermione from the battlefield, thinking that she looks beautiful even as her life's blood flows out of her - but for both of them, learning to live is more complicated than just not dying.

Seven Preposterous Things
by
Bloodcult of Freud
Draco asks Millicent Bulstrode to help him either kill Dumbledore or escape Voldemort or both - knowing that Millie is a real, old-fashioned, traditional folklore-type witch with a wealth of impressive skills you wouldn't find on the Hogwarts curriculum. He badgers her to marry him; initially just to get her protection, then with increasing sincerity. Meanwhile Snape, knowing what's coming, gets idiot-drunk and makes a pass at Hermione. Very funny, impressively vivid, especially in the portrayal of Millicent's background, and pretty sexually explicit.
|
|
Shadow Puppets
by
Michelle
After the fall of Hogwarts, Hermione must run through a world in ruins; but her position becomes less dire once she acquires an unexpected ally. Noteworthy for Snape being entirely Snapey - i.e. doing the Right Thing with exemplary courage whilst bitching about it the whole way.

The Significance of Flowers
by
veiledndarkness
Slash one-shot, set an indefinite period after Harry has left Hogwarts and got his own flat. Lack of communication causes Harry and Snape's first night together to go horribly wrong: can they repair the damage? Very believably awkward, prickly version of Snape.

Snape, A History
by
Kailin
With her marriage to Ron on the skids, Hermione throws herself into writing a history of the war - since no-one else seems to be bothering. This involves her getting the co-operation of Snape, who is living from hand to mouth by making basic potions, and is even more sulky and uncooperative than she remembers him from school. There is also a one-shot sequel, set a few years later and called Like Father, Like Daughter.

Sad little vignette: post-war Harry and Snape are lovers, but Snape is too emotionally scarred ever to smile or laugh, however hard Harry tries.

Snuff Out
by
Naatz
In the months following the end of HBP, a Harry who has had (or perhaps only deams he has had) a sexual relationship with Snape dreams about a green bed and three deaths - Dumbledore's, Snape's, his own - none of which he really wants. Beautiful and strange.

Soliloquy
by
Mimiheart
Snape receives a proposal of marriage from an unnamed person. You may find you have to go to the On-line Wizarding Library and set up an account before you can access this story (which is in the Realm of the Half-Blood Prince section) because this site has ferocious ratings-restrictions and the story is listed as PG - apparently because it contains a single mention of the possibility of a married couple having sex.

Some Great Adventure

Depressing but original view of a wizarding world in which Voldemort was defeated, but the Ministry of Magic became almost as corrupt and oppressive a government as the Death Eaters would have been.

Something Completely Different

Hermione returns to Hogwarts as a teaching assistant, and there is much bickering, teasing and cheating on bets between herself, Snape and McGonagall. The writing style is choppy and a bit confusing in places, but full of amusing descriptions and observations. WIP

Extremely sad non-explicit slash piece - the only person left who knows that Snape wasn't a traitor is Harry, and Harry's mind is broken.

The Songless Throat
by
TangledAria
A series of surreal images, adding up to a story in which Voldemort possessed Harry so deeply that Snape was forced to kill him, and wound up in Azkaban for it. Written in 2002 but still potentially canon-compatible. Horribly sad.

Sons of Prophecy (sequel to Mood Music)
by
whitehound (me, of course!)
Snape has escaped from Voldemort and made it back to rejoin the Order, but his friends have a new battle on their hands - to save him from Azkaban, the Ministry of Magic and his own shredded nerves. There really isn't time for him to have a nervous breakdown: not when he's supposed to be leading the war effort. WIP.

Soul Play
by
Snapesforte
A rather dark, self-serving take on a Snape who is loyal to his Death Eater friends who, after all, don't think of themselves as villains, and who becomes embroiled in Voldemort's plan to recruit vampires. Personally I don't think this version of Snape fits what's in canon but the story is beautifully written. WIP
|
|
Spellcaster
by
SGCbearcub
Complicated, rather dark but very well-written multi-part thriller in which Hermione uses a variant of the Marriage Law Challenge theme to entrap Snape (sour and ruthless but still basically on the side of the angels) and compel him to marry her, so that she can use him as her agent to identify and take revenge on the Death Eaters who murdered her parents. He, however, has his own agenda, serving both Light and Dark but never truly serving Voldemort, because the Dark in this story is a strand of primitive, instinctive magic and of wizarding philosophy in which Snape believes profoundly, and which he believes Voldemort to have corrupted. Much fascinating detail on magical mechanics and on wizarding and goblin culture.

Storyteller
by
Iago Emilia
Post-war, the Ministry has become an oppressive dictatorship. Memories have been tampered with but Snape, a lifer in a bleak prison-camp, still has his memories intact. Hermione, battle-hardened and weary, comes to interview him and he spins out the story of his life to keep her coming, Arabian Nights-style. Lots of believable and interesting character-development for the future Death Eaters who were at school with Snape. WIP

Survivors
by
Dyce
Snape has survived the war vindicated but distrusted, and with serious injuries after being tortured by Voldemort. He retreats into his own house and his own shell, cared for only by a self-appointed house-elf. Hermione tracks him down to see how he is and is so appalled by his condition that she stays to look after him, against his vociferous protests, and they gradually develop a warm friendship. Emotionally-intense to the point of being quite painful to read at times, but also wonderfully witty, and the development of Winky as a character is especially nice.
See also the one-shot follow-up piece A Good Day in which Hermione waits anxiously for Severus, still and forever partially disabled and in chronic pain, to return from a symposium at which he has, in his own inimitable way, been having fun.

Snape has been exonerated, more or less, but the Ministry continues to harrass him in petty ways, until he retreats to a small shack in the wilds. Tell Naught But Lies

Prior to his death Dumbledore arranged a series of strange, intellectually strenuous meetings between Snape and Hermione which convinced her of Snape's loyalty to the Order: so that she could be both contact and lifeline for him after the Headmaster's death. Nine years after Dumbledore's death and the mysterious disappearance of Draco Malfoy, the proprietress of a slighly dodgy bookshop in Knockturn Alley purchases a very snide, chippy talking ferret.... The Things He Does
by
FicklePen
One-shot which is expanded on in the WIP In the Garden of Eve. Voldemort has won. Through the Flames Comes Destiny's Child
by
Onatah1
WIP in its early stages at time of writing this. The post-war Ministry is sliding towards dictatorship. Snape has been imprisoned in Azkaban for almost a year, and has been worn to a near-catatonic shadow by harsh ill-treatment; but Harry has at least fulfilled the minimum requirements of Dumbledore's last wishes and hired him a lawyer. Looks as if it will be a very intense h/c story: there's going to be an OFC in later chapters who may or may not turn out to be a Sue but I have some hopes she won't be, and we are promised lots of house-elf character development, which is always good.

Through the Foe Glass and What Severus Found There
by
Mundungus42

Throwaways
by
RaeWhitt
Gentle slash piece. Harry visits Snape in prison, at first seeking answers, then out of gradually-developing friendship. To Be a Hero
by
zelda pinwheel
Despite confusing formatting (moving from scene to scene without so much as a double-space to separate them) and an opening couple of paragraphs which make it sound like a Mary Sue this is a thoughtful, well-written look at a tense, prickly Snape resisting Hermione's and Minerva's attempts to coax him out of his shell. Unfinished at time of listing.

The Traitorous Heart
by
Patripatan
Tiny but intense vignette. Sirius watches through the Veil as events unfold, helpless to influence them; saddened by how some people turned out and unwillingly impressed by others.... Trials and Tribulations Revised
by
Blue Moon3
Albus leaves convincing proof that Snape was acting on his orders, and Harry eventually comes to respect Snape as a fellow soldier and even as a teacher. When Snape is arrested and sent to Azkaban, with an option on the death penalty, the Ministry insists that his defence counsel must not be a colleague or a relative - so Harry volunteers to organize his defence. An exceptionally well-written WIP

An odd, sad little piece, written before HBP but compatible with it. Years after Snape's death, a prostitute remembers him, unemotionally but with a certain bleak fondness. Some grammatical oddities, apparently due to the author being German.

Two Lockets
by
ac1d6urn
Exceptionally well-written seven-part story with a not very explicit slash element. A cursed Horcrux leaves Harry so whoozy and confused that after Snape rescues him from Bellatrix, Harry seriously injures Snape, then realises that Snape is still on the Order's side and that he must save him. Snape in turn then has to save Harry from the curse, and from his own fecklessness. The descriptions, especially of Grimmauld Place, are stunningly well-done and very creepy, in a humorous way.

Unforgivable
by
Apothecaria
Originally a one-shot but now multi-part. The first chapter is set during Vold War One. Prisoner Severus Snape is being chippy and uncooperative, and Auror Moody decides to brutalize him into submission. He can't say he wasn't warned.... The second is set during HBP, and centres around Snape's realization of what happened to his old Potions textbook, and his nervous tension about Albus's, and his, likely fate. The third begins on a multi-part story set after HBP.
|
|
Unstrung Heroes
by
RaeWhit
Long, gentle one-shot: Harry and Snape have both ended up in the Muggle world, somewhat bereft. A chance encounter leads to friendship (and eventually to a sexual relationship which IMO rather spoils the rest of the story), but Severus is wearing a glamour and is afraid of what Harry will do when he finds out who his new friend really is....

Vie des Poulets
by
Alex the Anachronistic
Voldemort won the war, and Snape is still passing as a loyal Death Eater. Hermione is first absorbed into a strange research programme with an unknown purpose, then told that she is to marry Snape, whom she believes to be a traitor. When she realises how nervous he is she is at first quite sympathetic but when he uses Imperius to get her to go along with the ceremony, sympathy gives way to rage. The writing is uneven but the characterisation is lively and the plot interesting. WIP

Walk Through the Fire
by
Wonderful Child
Following the death of Dumbledore, Snape is high in the Dark Lord's favour but Bellatrix still believes (rightly or wrongly) that he is a double agent. To spite him she arranges for him to be "rewarded" by being given Hermione as a slave, curse-bound so that she has to have sex with him every few days or die. He is no happier about this than she is. He regards Hermione as a flaming nuisance and an imposition on his time; she regards him (rightly or wrongly) as a treacherous murderer - but when they are forced to live together at Spinner's End they quickly establish a sort of reluctant mutual domesticity. You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.

A Walking Shadow
by
Ariadne AWS
Returning to a deserted Grimmauld Place to search for the missing locket-horcrux, Hermione encounters Snape on the same mission. After a brief flurry of mutual paranoia they progress into a cross between a solemn flirtation and a brainstorming session, using a combination of Legilimency, Arithmancy and Egyptian lore to work out how to disarm the Horcruxes - and who must die to do so. A very fine piece of writing.

What E'er Therein Is Promised and Snape in Three Parts
by
Deeble
Sinister, rather dark but ultimately hopeful story in which Snape tricks Hermione into agreeing to sleep with him in return for an apprenticeship. She with her Muggle background sees this as abusive - he, coming from the much more old-fashioned and unromantic wizarding world, sees it as a fair bargain, but he gradually comes to realize that this isn't how he wants his relationship with her to be, but doesn't know how to get back to how he wishes things could have been. Snape in Three Parts is an out-take which occurs during chapter #16 of What E'er Therein Is Promised . Although the story was written prior to The Half-Blood Prince coming out, it is loosely canon-compatible, since it is after the war and Dumbledore is gone. You may find you have to go to the Ashwinder site and set up an account before you can access this story.
