Self Defence Prevention Tips

Stolen Phones - Immobilise Phone Crime
In 2000/1the estimated number of mobile phone thefts was 710,000.
Over the same period, 28% of all robberies involved a mobile phone.
The news now is that mobile phones don't work once they are stolen but you must work with the Police to get this message across to more people and that means acting now.

If a phone is blocked then it is stopped. Its simple. Call your network , service provider or 08701 123 123 and they will deactivate your SIM card and handset so that it will not work on any UK network.

You must take note of your mobile phone IMEI number. This unique IMEI number is then entered onto the networks' central database and will then be immobilised. This includes your SIM card.

To access your IMEI number press the keys *#06# and it will be displayed. Also contact your local Police should your phone be stolen.

To report a stolen phone or lost mobile phone call your network operator. The relevant numbers are -

Bags/Handbags
When you are out and about try and carry your bags safely.
If you have a handbag make sure you have some change in it for getting home or to use as a distraction if caught in confrontation.
Place your handbag so the starps cross from the far shoulder or so that it sits under the arm of the same shoulder.

Good Tip
Try and keep items such as a hairbrush, keys or a personal alrm handy and ensure that some of these items are not at the bottom of the bag making it difficult to get too.
