Self Awareness
Courses are not intended to teach you how to protect yourself in a defensive manner. This is judged as a last resort and by a person confident to carry the defensive skill through. However, what I believe is the most important factor is avoiding the situation in the first place.
During your training I will teach you how to look strong - body language.
The way we look, talk and stand send out signals of strength and confidence. This plays a major role in personal safety. A person that goes out to look for a victim will not choose somebody who will fight back or overpower them therfore by looking confident you can help prevent yourself from becoming a victim.
Classes in Self Defence offer a chance to gain confidence, practice skills in the prevention of assault, such as holding your bag safely, head up, shoulders back - walking with power. Better still these skills can be used in everyday life for confidence and focus in the office.
Choosing Self Defence Classes
Are you for somewhere to learn how to protect yourself, here's some ideas for you -
There are many places offering 'self defence' but how will you know which to choose? -
* Ask questions relating to the instructors experience
* How long have courses been established
* If it feels wrong then it is most probably not for you
* Has the instructor qualifications in appropriate safety skills
* Are there 'hand's on' skills practiced
Self Defence is not learning to fight it is about recognising certain signals and responding appropriately. Yes you may have to fight but only as a last resort. Please remember you could be held responsible for your actions.
